Allen Records 13 Top-10 Finishes at Emporia State Spring Open

The ACC Track and Field team traveled to Emporia this past weekend to compete in the Emporia State Spring Open, facing 33 collegiate teams and more than 1,000 athletes. Top institutions included Kansas University, Kansas State University, Wichita State University, as well as Division II programs like Grand Valley State, Minnesota State, Northwest Missouri, and Pittsburg State.

The Red Devil’ men dominated the 100M Dash, placing six athletes in the top 10 and five more in the top 20. Freshman Maurice Conner led the way, finishing third overall with a time of 10.25, just 0.002 seconds off second place.

ACC athletes filled spots No. 5 through No. 9:

Five additional Red Devils finished in the top 20: Sophomore Nate Jones (12th, 10.63), Sophomore Tierre Hamilton (14th, 10.66), and freshmen Lamar Mangrum (16th, 10.69), Makhi Bradford (17th, 10.69), and Ashton Gratton (19th, 10.69).

On the women’s side, freshman RaNayla Moten claimed first in the 100M Dash with 11.40, followed by freshman Avia Lane in second (11.51), while sophomore Camryn Ere placed 12th (12.04).

In the relay section of the event, ACC entered two men’s teams into the 4×100 relay who placed both first and second place. ACC team ‘A’ consisted of Jones, Conner, Cooper, and Dargan who took the win with a time of 40.55.  ACC team ‘B’ of Gratton, Daley, Mallory, and Bradford who finished second with a time of 40.79.

Other finishers for the Red Devils include sophomore Leah Wright who took home a 7th place finish in the Women Triple Jump with a jump of 11.23m on her second to last jump. In the men’s 200M dash, freshman Aaron Thompson Jr finished in a time of 21.83 for an 8th place finish. Freshman Shaquilea Alvaranga competed in the women’s 400M hurdles and ran a 1:13.87 for a 9th place finish. Rounding out the Emporia State Spring Open, freshman Jewlinsky Desrosiers finished the men’s 800M with a 2:00.60, tallying a 13th place finish.

The Red Devils will continue with their season this weekend at the Mark A. Phillips Invite in Arkansas City, KS.
