PUEBLO, Colorado – The No. 6-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team shot their best round of the tournament and finished fifth at the Sam Proal, hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo at the Pueblo Country Club.
The Blue Dragons shot a final-round 287 to finish with a 54-hole score of 865. The Dragons had rounds of 290 and 288 on Monday.
Hutchinson finished 24 stroke behind team champion Colorado Christian, which shot 4-under 280 on Tuesday and won the tournament with a total of 841, eight strokes ahead of runner-up CSU-Pueblo.
The Blue Dragons were led on Tuesday be freshman Hugo Duquaine, who carded a 4-under 67. After a bogey on the third hole, Duquaine posted birdies on Nos. 4, 10, 11, 14 and 18. The Dragons also counted scores from Grant Hatzenbuehler (71), Corey Scullion (74) and Jack Northgraves (75).
Scullion and Duquaine finished tied for 11th individually at 1-under 212. The were nine strokes off the pace of individual champion Peyton Jones of Colorado Christian. Jones shot a 70 on Tuesday and closed at 10-under 203.
Northgraves tied for 38th at 221 after a final-round 75. Hatzenbuehler tied for 66th at 228. Joe Austin shot a round of 81 in the final round and tied for 77th at 231.
The Blue Dragons play in the Jayhawk Conference championship next Monday and Tuesday at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
