Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team played host to their biggest rivals, the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, on Tuesday, March 31. The game was moved up a day due to predicted impending weather.

GAME 1: SWEDES 2, COYOTES 10 (6-INNINGS)

The Swedes would struggle defensively giving up 10 runs and racking up five errors in this one. The offense would make an appearance in the fourth inning as Emmaline Senecaut would double home Marissa Wells. Senecaut would them score on the very next play via an error by the shortstop. The Swedes would fall 10-2.

Marissa Wells was dominant in this one at the designated player position tallying three of the Swedes four hits on a perfect three-for-three with two doubles. Emmaline Senecaut would tally the lone RBI for Bethany.

Dylann Baker drew the start and lasted 3.1 innings while tallying the lone strikeout of the evening for both teams. Amia Alexander-Sims and MacKenzie Yoder teamed up for the last 2.2 innings to close it out.

GAME 2: SWEDES 4, COYOTES 10 (8-INNINGS)

The excitement didn’t really start until the sixth inning when Bethany jumped on the board to cut the Kansas Wesleyan lead to just one. Marissa Wells got it started with a double down the right field line to score Avery NewmillerAddilyn Miller then capitalized on a throwing error by the catcher while Emmaline Senecaut capitalized on a fielding error by the Coyotes’ pitcher.

After a three-up-three-down top of the seventh, Newmiller doubled home Kyson Vap to knot it up at 4-4. But that is when the excitement would end for the Swedes as they would give up six in the eighth and fall 10-4.

Avery Newmiller had a game recording three hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Marissa Wells continued her hot streak going two-for-three while drawing a walk and batting one in.

In the circle, Jordyn Stelzig got the start and looked great through 7.1 innings. Paris Hammer and Ayianna Revels would combine for the final two outs with Revels only needing one pitch.
