Buhler Girls Swimmers, Divers Open Season with First-place Showing at Salina South Meet

The Buhler High School girls swim and diving team placed first at the Salina South Invitational on Thursday.

Buhler placed first with 484 points, followed by Hutchinson 434, Hays High 416, Great Bend 314.5, Salina South 277.5, Salina Central 250 and Abilene 32.

“Buhler took first place as a team at Salina South, the first meet of the year due to several personal records set, great times and a few consideration times for state,” said Buhler swim coach Shane DeWeese.

• The Buhler medley relay A team of Hannah Swain, Regan Walle, Avery Schrader and Reyne Kaufman took second place overall with a time of 2 minutes, 12.61 seconds and earned an early state consideration time.

The B relay team of Payton Ball, Evey Brooks, Addy Tech, Harper Kendrick took sixth place with a time of 2:29.06.

• Reyne Kaufman placed second, Cora Nuttmann 10th and Payton Thompson in the 200-yard freestyle.

• Hannah Swain placed second in the 200 individual medley, followed by Regan Walle in fourth place and Addy Tech in seventh place.

• In the 50 freestyle, Avery Schrader earned fourth place, Harper Kendrick in fifth and Lauren Auxier in 11th.

• Buhler’s Evey Brooks placed first in the diving competition with a score of 152.85 points and Griffyn Showalter finished second with a score of 115.85.

• Avery Schrader placed third in the 100 butterfly. Regan Walle placed ninth and Payton Ball finished 10th.

• Buhler’s Abby Ehret placed seventh in the 100 freestyle, Lauren Auxier 10th and Addie Maxfield 14th.

• Buhler’s Hannah Swain won the 500 free. Reyne Kaufman placed third and Payton Thompson finished 10th. Thompson swam the 500 for the first time ever.

• The Crusaders’ 200 free relay A team of Harper Kendrick, Addy Tech, Lauren Auxier, Evey Brooks took third with a time of 2:11.17.

The B relay team of Cora Nuttmann, Griffyn Showalter, Addie Maxfield and Maddi Moore took seventh with a time of 2:45.08.

The C relay team of Hannah Whitney, Mira Koptieva, Berkeley Bosley and Payton Thompson took eighth with a time of 3:11.68.

• In the 100 backstroke, Buhler’s Payton Ball placed eighth, Cora Nuttmann ninth and Maddi Moore 11th.

• Buhler’s Evey Brooks led the team in the breaststroke, earning fourth place. Addy Tech earned fifth and Harper Kendrick sixth. Tech finished just ahead of Kendrick.

• Finally, in the 400 freestyle relay, the A relay team of Reyne Kaufman, Hannah Swain, Avery Schrader, Regan Walle took second place. They earned a state consideration time of 4:27.69.

The 400 B relay team of Payton Ball, Cora Nuttmann, Abby Ehret and Griffyn Showalter took 7th place with a time of 5:46.34.

Hutchinson and Buhler will compete at the Hutchinson Invitational Wednesday at the Hutchinson YMCA pool. Also competing are Dodge City, Goddard Eisenhower, Garden City, Holcomb and Liberal.
