The season came to an end for the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team with a 57-54 loss to Clarendon College, Texas, in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division Tournament Saturday.
The NJCAA Division I women’s national tournament is being played at McNeese State University’s Townsley Law Arena in Lake Charles, La.
KaMyra Barber led the Blue Dragons, who finished the season with a 29-7 record, with 16 points and added 6 rebounds. Whitney Brown and Katie Duncan each scored 9 points. Duncan had 5 steals.
Noelle Anthon scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kaia Smith added 5 points and 7 rebounds.
Jamia McPherson added 3 points, Delora Pricop 2 and Jaden Wilson 2.
Armanda Sindalawa led Clarendon with 25 points. Zainab Olalekan posted a “double-double” with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Clarendon (33-2) advanced to the 4 p.m. semifinal game Monday against New Mexico Junior College. NMJC defeated Walters State 65-56 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The 6:15 p.m. semifinal game features Trinity Valley Community College (31-3) against Eastern Arizona (31-2).
In the quarterfinals, Trinity Valley defeated Shelton State Community College 49-30 and Eastern Arizona defeated the College of Southern Idaho 64-56.
The semifinal winners will play for the championship at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
The Blue Dragon women’s team will graduate six sophomores from the 2025-26 team: Katie Duncan, Jamya McPherson, Dylan Alexander, Noelle Anthony, Delora Pricop and Jaden Wilson.
Freshmen on the squad were Whitney Brown, Anaya Guess, Jamia Taylor, Rylee McLucas, KaMyra Barber, Tayla Gaucho and Kaia Smith.
