Warriors Have Record Breaking Day at ESU Spring Open

EMPORIA, Kan. – Sterling College track and field competed at the Emporia State Spring Open on Friday, March 27. The Warriors had yet another record-breaking performance as Blake Robertson broke the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.90m (153-10) to finish 22nd.

Calen Wente also competed in the hammer throw where he finished 35th in a heave of 39.01m (128-00). Also competing in the throws were James Dickerman and Tod Mastin who went 28th and 34th in the javelin with throws of 42.09m (138-01) and 39.16m (128-05), respectively.

In discus, Wente led the Warriors with a throw of 41.40m (135-10) to finish 21st. Right behind him was Robertson, finishing 23rd with a throw of 41.29m (135-05). Bradyen Kermode also competed in the discus where he placed 37th with a toss of 32.07m (105-02).

In the shot put, Robertson and Keaton Miller finished 20th and 32nd with marks of 14.19m (46-06.75) and 12.69m (41-07.75), respectively.

In the jumps, Charles Jones continues to dominate in the triple jump, winning the event with a mark of 15.24m (50-00). He also finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 6.72m (22-00.75). Cedric Wilson competed in the men’s high jump where he finished 11th with a clearance of 1.96m (6-05).

Wilson continued to have success on the track, finishing 13th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.92.

A battalion of Warriors competed in the 200m dash with Nazar Haydon leading the way with a time of 23.10 to place 29th. Just behind him was Sean Watson, David Sullivan and Ian Chrisler who finished 36th, 40th and 44th with time of 23.34, 23.65 and 24.10, respectively.

Hayson also competed in the 100m dash where he ran a time of 11.15 to finish 42nd. Sullivan and Chrisler also ran the 400m dash where they finished with times of 53.40 and 54.90 to place 27th and 33rd, respectively.

In the middle-distance races, Jacob Tonne and Wesley Brantley competed in the 800m run where they ran time of 2:09.05 and 2:19.16 to finish 44th and 54th, respectively. Camryn Gantt competed in the 1500m run finished 24th with a time of 4:27.96. Jace Gaston rounded out the field for the Warrior in the 5000m run, finishing 25th with a time of 17:42.73.

On the women’s side, Aliya McClanahan opened up her 2026 outdoor season with impressive performances in the discus and shot put. She finished 16th in the discus with a throw of 37.63m (123-05) and placed 26th in the shot put with a toss of 10.52m (34-06.25). Also competing in the shot put for the Lady Warriors was Briana Croisant. She finished 32nd with a mark of 9.62m (31-06.75).

On the track, Claire Miller led the charge for the ladies in the distance races. She finished 26th in the 800m run with a time of 2:40.70 while also leading the Lady Warriors in the 1500m run with a time of 5:27.25 to place 21st. Also competing in the 1500m run were Janie Perico, Lydia Nelson and Audrey Blake who finished 28th, 33rd and 35th with times of 5:52.40, 6:14.17 and 6:36.74, respectively.

Up next, the Warriors will compete in the Friends University Spring Open to be held Thursday through Saturday, April 2-4 in Wichita, Kan.
