STERLING, Kan. — Sterling secured a decisive 14–2 victory over Friends University on Tuesday, March 23. The win was highlighted by a powerful second inning where Sterling scored 11 runs.
Sterling’s lineup hit four home runs and collected 10 hits, while its pitching staff limited the Falcons to just three hits over seven innings.
The Warriors secured a decisive victory over Friends University with a commanding performance at the plate. The second inning was pivotal as Sterling erupted for 11 runs. Mitchel McDaniel, pinch-running for Jackson Harding, scored on a two-run homer by Nehemiah House. Joshua Garcia walked and was brought home by Imanol Ramos‘s two-run home run. Mateo Castro, Matthew Garcia and Chuck Lang loaded the bases, setting up Emmanuel Huerta Cardenas to double and score two more. House later singled to drive in two additional runs. Ramos capped the inning with his second home run, a three-run shot, bringing Sterling to an 11–0 lead by the end of the second.
The Falcons responded in the fourth inning with two runs, courtesy of Colton Flores’s two-RBI double. Sterling answered back in the bottom half when J. Garcia’s two-run homer extended the lead to 13–2.
Lang’s triple in the fifth inning and subsequent scoring on a double play pushed the lead further. The score was 14–2 after five innings.
Sterling’s defense and pitching held the Falcons scoreless for the remaining innings, securing a 14–2 victory as the final score.
Jack Trent pitched 4 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Landon Snyder followed with 2 innings of relief, yielding just one hit and striking out four batters without issuing any walks, achieving a WHIP of 0.50. Henry Green IV closed with a perfect inning, inducing two groundouts, contributing to Sterling’s strong pitching performance.
Chuck Lang recorded three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs while driving in one. Nehemiah House tallied two hits, highlighted by a home run, with three runs scored and four RBI. Imanol Ramos collected three hits, including two home runs, and drove in five runs while scoring twice. Joshua Garcia contributed with a home run, driving in two runs and crossing the plate twice.
Sterling (14-17, 8-10) will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28 as they take on Saint Mary (5-23, 2-16) in Leavenworth, Kan. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. with Saturday’s doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
