WICHITA, Kan. – Sterling College men’s tennis took on Friends University on Monday, March 23. Sterling was able to come away with multiple victories in doubles and singles play but were unable to claim the team winning, losing to the Falcons, 5-2.
In doubles play, Rubem Bogomoltz and Pedro Felipoff defeated Rodrigo Torres Viru and Yves Ikuno, 7-6, in the No. 2 doubles match. However, the Warriors were unable to secure the doubles point as Fernando Vargas and Kazuki Fukushima lost 6-4 to Cristobal Fuentez and Gabriel Gomez in the No. 1 singles match, and Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma and Cassidy Kelly lost to Trey Lacy and Gage March 6-0 in No. 3 doubles play.
Despite the setback, Sterling was able to bounce back as Vargas defeated Gomez 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play, and Fukushima took down Lacy in No. 4 singles play, 6-2, 6-3. Unfortunately, the Warriors were unable to amount the comeback as Felipoff fell to Fuentez 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play, and Bogomoltz came up short, 6-0, 7-6, to Torres Viru in the No. 3 singles match.
Kelly and Curtis-Kaduma both lost their matches 6-0, 6-0, as Kelly took on Jacob Bush in No. 5 singles play and Curtis-Kaduma faced Ikuno in the No. 6 singles match.
Sterling (1-8, 0-2) will take on Emporia State University (6-6) in Emporia, Kan. on Thursday, March 26 with matches starting at 2 p.m.
