McPHERSON, Kan. — At a special meeting Monday that took just a few minutes, McPherson City Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding with the Kansas State Fire Marshal (KSFM) to be part of a wildfire response program.

McPherson Fire Chief Chad Mayberry told Commissioners this would be comparable to a mutual aid agreement where it would provide a brush unit, command vehicle, and three personnel if requested.

The city would also have the ability to decline a response request if it did not have sufficient personnel or equipment available or a situation exists where they are unable to respond due to other circumstances.

The city and KSFM have had similar agreements related to search and rescue and hazardous materials response, the former dating back to 2021 and the latter entered into last year.
