How it Happened
On a chilly and windy Tuesday afternoon, Francisco Paradis started on the mound for the Bulldogs; after a 19-pitch first inning, Paradis gave momentum to the hosts after allowing no runs and no hits. Jaylon Woodley found the first hit of the ballgame with a shot up the middle for a single, but he would be caught stealing second base later in the inning.
The Bulldogs opened up the scoring in fashion with a solo home run from Myles Vazquez for the 1-0 advantage to lead off the bottom of the second inning. After leaving two runners on base, Kansas Wesleyan made McPherson pay the price as the Coyotes scored three runs in the top of the third; the run was initially sparked by Blake Dale’s leadoff home run on a 1-0 pitch from Paradis.
The top of the fourth inning was where the Coyotes blew this game open. With two outs already down in the inning, the visitors would go on to score seven runs on just three hits and one error. They would hold a 10-1 lead over the Bulldogs heading into the bottom of the fourth.
In the bottom half of the fourth, Troy Stukenberg managed to bat home the second run of the day for McPherson on a groundout to the short stop; this would be the final run scored for the Bulldogs on the day.
Kansas Wesleyan went on to score three more runs in the top of the seventh, and with the Bulldogs unable to answer in the batter’s box, the game ended in the bottom of the seventh with the Coyotes rolling to a 13-2 run-rule victory.
