Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team earned their 14th all-time trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on Monday.
Receiving an at-large bid, the Blue Dragons (27-6) earned the No. 13 overall seed and will play No. 20-seed Williston State (32-1) at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at the Townsley Law Arena in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The Region 6 runner-up Blue Dragons were one of three KJCCC teams to be selected for the 24-team single-elimination tournament field. Region 6 champion Butler and Dodge City were the other teams selected from the conference.
This will be Hutchinson’s fifth time to earn a bid to nationals as an at-large team. The Blue Dragons are 25-13 all-time in the NJCAA Tournament. That mark includes seven trips to the national semifinals and the 2024 NJCAA national championship.
The Blue Dragons average 69.3 points per game, shooting 41.3 percent overall and 30.6 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, the Dragons allow 55.5 points with opponents shooting 35.8 percent overall and 31.3 percent from distance.
The Blue Dragons’ defense will be tested as Williston State is the No. 1 scoring team in the nation at 91.2 points per game. Overall WSCC shoots 48.6 percent overall and 34.0 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, Williston State allows 55.9 points per game.
This will be the first meeting ever between Hutchinson and Williston State.
The Hutchinson-Williston State winner will play No. 6-seed Northwest Florida State on Thursday, March 26 at 2:30 p.m.
