The Ellinwood High School girls basketball team advanced to the Kansas Class 2A state tournament semifinals with a 55-48 victory over No. 8 Rossville 55-48 in the quarterfinal round Tuesday at Salina’s Tony’s Pizza Events Center.
Ellinwood was 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 20 seconds.
Ellinwood’s Brynn Widener shot 3 of 6 from 3-point range and had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Mette Maxwell scored 10 with 6 rebounds, Julia Schlessiger had 8 rebounds and Regan Widener 6
Rylee Dick scored 31 points (including five 3-pointers) for Rossville. Nora Burdiek had 11 rebounds.
The No. 1 Eagles (26-1) will play the No. 4-seeded Eureka Tornadoes (23-2) at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emporia’s White Auditorium. Eureka defeated Oakley 51-45 in the game that preceded the Ellinwood-Rossville game.

In the other 2A girls quarterfinal games, Moundridge defeated Valley Heights 63-48 and Salina Sacred Heart defeated Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan 52-42.
Moundridge (24-2) will play Salina Sacred Heart (23-4) at 4 p.m. Thursday in the other 2A girls semifinal game at White Auditorium.
Moundridge’s Cammi Unruh made 9 of 14 from the field and scored a game-high 23 points with 5 rebounds. Macy Kaminkow had 8 rebounds. Halle Hecox had 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Valley Heights’ Ava Smith scored 21 points and had 7 rebounds. Lindsay Gray had 5 rebounds.
