McPherson, Kan. – Central Christian College of Kansas Softball took three of four from Oklahoma Panhandle State here in McPherson over the weekend. With the series win, the Tigers move to 9-7 and 4-4 in SAC play.
The Tigers split with the Aggies on the first day, dropping the first game, 4-2 in eight innings. The Aggies opened the scoring in the third with an rbi single and added a second run in the 5th due to a Tiger error. The Tiger offense struggled for most of the game but when it mattered most, Abby Schleisman came through and hit a single to left that drove in two runs to tie the game in the 7th inning.
The Aggies would score two in the 8th inning and shut down the Tiger offense in the bottom half of the inning to win the first game of the series 4-2 in extras.
Game two would be a totally different story as Chelsie Hirtler would hold the Aggies to just 4 hits as the Tigers exploded for 3 runs in the third as the Tigers capitalized on multiple Aggie errors. The 5th inning, the Tigers would again take advantage of an error to extend the inning. This would lead to Abby Schleisman hitting a solo homerun to dead center to extend the Tiger lead to 6-0. Jaci Jeffers would extend the lead to 7-0 with triple to center but she would come around to score on a throwing error.
The game would be called in the bottom of the 5th due to inclement weather in the area. The Tigers would go on to win 7-0 in 5 innings. The momentum from that game carried over into Saturday as the Tigers would tag the Aggies for 7 runs in three innings. Jaci Jeffers continued her scorching hot weekend at the plate, adding two extra base hits along with three rbi’s. The Tigers would go on to win 7-3 and guarantee at least a split of the series with the Aggies.
In game 2, the Aggies would strike first, scoring a run in each of the first three innings. It would take the Tigers a bit to wake up but they responded by scoring a run in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings respectively. Jaci Jeffers once again, added a homerun in the 4th inning to her already impressive resume from the weekend. The Aggies would take the lead in the 6th after a passed ball got by the catcher, allowing a run to score for a 4-3 lead.
The Tigers would tie the game at 4-4 in the 6th, taking advantage of a passed ball by the Aggies. They would take the lead 5-4 as Ashley Vaccaro hit an rbi groundout. The Tigers would silence the Aggie bats in the top of the 7th for a 5-4 win and a 3-1 SAC series win.
