Ottawa, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team were originally supposed to host the Ottawa University Braves over the weekend, but, after some projections of poor weather, the Swedes took the trip to Ottawa, Kan. instead as the visitor of the series.

GAME 1: SWEDES 0, BRAVE 10

The Swedes were unable to get anything going in the first game of the series only mustering three hits; two by Conner Balmer. Balmer would hit a double in the seventh inning.

Abraham suffered his first loss of the season lasting 4.0 innings allowing 10 baserunners while striking out five. Austin Arrocha and Diego Lopez each would pitch 2.0 innings to close out the rest of the contest.

GAME 2: SWEDES 0, BRAVE 6

Offensively, the Swedes would take a turn for the worse only tallying two hits. Conner Balmer had the lone extra-base hit with a double in the fourth inning.

Wesly Martinez drew the start on the mound lasting 6.0 innings. Martinez would settle down after the first inning allowing just two hits from the second through sixth inning. Juan Melo would start the seventh inning, but would walk three and allow one run before Giovanny Orozco entered to retire the final batter.

GAME 3: SWEDES 10, BRAVES 21

The Swedes would jump on the board first as Fernando Bones would capitalize on Adrian Rodriguez distraction of the defense to steal home before Rodriguez was tagged for the final out of the inning.

The Braves would answer back in the top of the second, but Stephen Kent would crank one over the left field wall to score himself and Eduardo Tarafa to take a 3-1 lead. Ottawa would continue the back-and-forth scoring four in the next half inning. In the bottom half of the third, Conner Balmer would score via a Braves’ error to cut the deficit to one.

The Braves would add on to their lead in the top of the fourth scoring five, but the Swedes would do the same over the next two innings topped off by a Brevin Hoffman three-run blast over center field to make 10-9 in favor of the Braves. Unfortunately, the Braves would score 11 runs between the sixth and seventh innings to put it out of reach, but Kent would blast another one over left field. The Swedes would fall 21-10.

Kent had himself a day with two homeruns. Hoffman would hit his first of the season for all three of his RBIs. Bones racked up two doubles to account for both of his hits on the afternoon.

Jan Maldonado-Cruz drew the start lasting 3.1 innings. Joseph Guzman would enter in relief also pitching 3.1 innings. Jose Fajardo and Noah Hargrove would each enter the contest as Hargrove would record the final out.
