Buhler’s Cheyann Geesling Captures 4-1A girls State Bowling Crown; Crusader Girls Place 2nd, Boys 3rd

Buhler High School’s Cheyann Geesling captured first-place honors at the Kansas Class 4-1A girls state bowling tournament Friday at Bowlero Northrock in Wichita.

The Buhler girls, who won the 2024 Class 4-1A state title and the 2012 and 2019 5-1A state titles, posted a 2750 team score for the second-place finish.

The Buhler boys finished third in the Class 4-1A boys state team tournament with a 3393 score.

Geesling placed first with a 629 series — 12 pins better than second-place finisher Raylie Varner of Towanda-Circle.

Buhler’s Aubrey Ewing and Cora Nuttman placed 11th and 13th  with series of 508 and 501 (the top 20 players earned medals). Macy Miller posted a 481 series, followed by Keelee Bryant 420 and Baylee Krase 356.

In the first game for the Buhler girls, the Crusaders posted a 787 score, led by Geesling with a 217 score and Nuttman with a 209. Ewing bowled a 190, followed by Miller 171, Bryant 143 and Krase 112.

The Crusader girls posted a 671 score in Game 2. Geesling led the way with a 224 score, followed by Ewing with a 159, Bryant 148, Nuttman 140, Miller 128 and Krase 114.

Buhler posted a 681 score in Game 3. Geesling posted a 188 score, followed by Miller 182, Ewing 159, Nuttman 152, Krase 130 and Bryant 129.

The Crusader girls posted a Baker round score of 611 (182, 169, 136, 124).

Buhler’s Stryker Avery placed ninth in the 4-1A boys state tournament with a 691 series and Logan Brown placed 14th with a 656 series. Collin Schwarzkopf bowled a 614 series, followed by Jackson Sponsel 556, Kaden Glass 541 and Nathan Nugent 527.

In Game 1 for the Buhler boys, the Crusaders posted an 845 score. Brown posted a 222 score, followed by Schwarzkopf 212, Avery 210, Glass 201, Sponsel 183 and Nugent 147.

In Game 2, the Crusader boys posted an 874 score, led by Brown with a 227, Avery 226, Schwarzkopf 219, Nugent 202, Sponsel 191 and Glass 190.

In Game 3, the Crusader boys posted an 827 score, led by Avery’s 255. Brown posted a 207 score, Schwarzkopf 183, Sponsel 182, Nugent 178 and Glass 150.

The Crusader boys posted a Baker score of 847 (199-183-266-199).

Ottawa won the Class 4-1A boys state team title with a 3753 score, followed by Towanda-Circle in second place with a 3475 score.

Mulvane placed fourth with a 3389 score, followed by Topeka Hayden 3297, Wichita Central Christian Academy 3160, Cheney 3157 and McPherson 2867.

Wichita Central Christian Academy Andrew Burchfiel captured first place in the individual standings with a 773 series.

Mulvane’s Avery Larkins placed second with a 748 series, followed by Ottawa’s Kolten Powell and Shane Circle at 744 and 736. Hesston’s Tanner McAllister placed fifth at 731.

The Ottawa girls completed the Cyclone sweep won the 4-1A girls state championship with a 2900 score, including a Baker score of 753.

Andale placed third with a 2720 score, followed by Mulvane 2526, Chanute 2478, Wichita Collegiate 2441, Topeka Hayden 2260 and McPherson 1988.
