Lyons Rallies But Can’t Overtake Scott City in Substate Opener

In Class 3A boys substate play, Scott City got the win in front of the home crowd on Friday over Lyons, 56-48, to advance to the semifinals next Tuesday.

Lyons had a 2-1 lead early on, but Scott City never trailed after gaining the lead at 3-2. Scott City held a five-point lead at halftime, 26-21. The Beavers extended the lead to 13 midway through the third period before Lyons started cutting into the difference. After three, Scott City still had a five-point lead at 42-37. Lyons tied the game at 42-42 early in the fourth quarter, and then Scott City closed the game on a 14-6 run.

Scott City was led in scoring by Drew Metzger with a game-high 17 points.  Junior Meza finished with 13 points, all coming in the second half.

Tegan Link led Lyons with 15 points. Right behind in double digits were Paco Espinoza with 14 and Detrell Stanley with 14 points. Rounding out the scoring, Anthony Ventura had 3 points while Derek Alvidrez finished with 2 points.  Lyons made 6 of 15 free throws.

Lyons closes their season at 8-14. Scott City improves its record to 12-9.
