McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School Boys Basketball team bounced back from a tough loss last Friday to defeat Mulvane, 68-46, on Senior Night at the Roundhouse on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
McPherson played without starting forward Eli Reasoner on Tuesday, but they handled the Wildcats thanks to shooing 50% on the floor, out-rebounding Mulvane 35-28, and forcing 16 turnovers. Mulvane started hot from long-distance, hitting three 3-point shots within the first five minutes to lead early, but McPherson bounced back to lead 19-13 at the end of the first, staying on the gas pedal to lead 35-22 at halftime. McPherson kept the momentum in their favor, pulling away to win 68-46.
Tuesday was Senior Night for McPherson, as all four seniors (KJ Harrison, Cade Strathman, Jett Pyle, and Paxton Ingels) started Tuesday’s game and were subbed out late to get a standing ovation from the McPherson crowd. Pyle led McPherson with 21 points and 5 assists. Strathman and Cole Cooper added 12. Mulvane was led by Canon Lazier’s 17 points.
McPherson improves to 13-9 overall, 7-2 in AVCTL-3 play. McPherson is still in a three-way tie with Augusta and Buhler for first place in the league, as they head to Winfield on Thursday, Feb. 26 to close the regular season. Augusta and Buhler will face off on Thursday.
