How it Happened
Gillian Rodgers put on a show in her final game as a Bulldog, opening the contest with back-to-back three-pointers. Rodgers finished the first quarter a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, leading McPherson up to that point with nine points. As a team, the Bulldogs shot 40% from the field and 50% on three-point tries. Oklahoma Wesleyan used a 12-0 run in the final two minutes to build a nine-point lead, but McPherson closed the period with three straight points to cut the deficit to four heading into the second frame.
The second quarter featured less offensive production, as both teams saw their efficiency dip. Each side went 5-for-16 from the field and one shot from deep. The difference came at the free-throw line where the Eagles converted eight of their nine attempts, while McPherson couldn’t earn a trip to the stripe. This disparity helped Oklahoma Wesleyan extend its lead to 39-27 heading into halftime.
Oklahoma Wesleyan pushed its advantage to 20 in the third quarter, putting up a game-high of 22 points in the period. McPherson answered with 14 points of their own, led by Amaree Henderson who paced all players with eight in the frame.
The Bulldogs surged the final frame, tallying 26 points and trimming the deficit to just three with under two minutes remaining. A 16-0 run midway through the quarter fueled the comeback, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Maizen Gillam. Despite the late push, McPherson fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan 74-67 after the Eagles sealed the game with four shots at the line in the final 30 seconds.
Amaree Henderson led the Bulldogs’ attack with 20 points, adding eight rebounds and two assists. Gillian Rodgers chipped in 14 points, marking her second-highest scoring performance of the season.
