Nickerson Panther Squads Fall to Hillsboro

The Hillsboro High School boys basketball team defeated Nickerson 64-37 Friday night at the Hillsboro gymnasium and the Hillsboro girls defeated Nickerson 61-20.

The Hillsboro boys led 12-11 after one quarter and 25-20 at halftime. The Trojans outscored the Panthers 39-17 in the second half.

Brayson Amstutz led Hillsboro with 24 points. Braxton Hiebertt and Koehn Janzen each scored 17 points.

Riley Brawner led the Nickerson Panthers with 19 points. Dale Smith added 9.

The Hillsboro girls led 13-4 after one quarter and shut out the Panthers 22-0 in the second quarter. The Trojans outscored Nickerson 26-16 in the second half.

Daisy Klein led Hillsboro with 12 points, followed by Ella Potucek with 11, Addison Jost 10, Amyah Werth 8, Riley Richert 8 and Talia Jost 6.

Shalie Powell led Nickerson with 7 points. Centhiyah Bankston added 5, Skyler Lamas 4, Aleah Collins 2 and Cora-Mae Narron 2.

Kansas Class 3A sub-state pairings have been released.

The Nickerson boys will play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Beloit.

The Nickerson girls will play at 6 p.m. Friday at Holcomb.
