IOLA, Kan. (Feb. 19, 2026) — Allen Community College will welcome more than 80 high school instrumentalists to campus for Band Night on Feb. 25, an annual event designed to showcase student talent, strengthen community partnerships, and highlight the performing arts opportunities available at Allen.

Students representing Iola, Marmaton Valley, Anderson County, Humboldt, Yates Center, and Independence high schools will form a large, combined pep band that will perform throughout the evening’s basketball activities, beginning with the women’s game at 6 p.m. The ensemble will contribute to a high‑energy atmosphere in the gym while gaining meaningful experience performing in a collegiate setting.

“This event is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents at the college level,” said Allen Community College Music Instructor Patrick Matarazzo. “We want every visiting student and their families to feel welcomed and a part of the Allen experience.”

The event will feature special performances, including:

  • A brass trio from Marmaton Valley High School, performing the National Anthem prior to the men’s basketball game, accompanied by the local American Legion Color Guard.
  • The Independence High School Winter Drumline, performing during halftime of the men’s basketball game.

Visiting students will have the chance to experience Allen’s campus, connect with current students, and become active participants in the Allen music program and college community.

The arts are not only highly valued at Allen Community College, but they also serve as a gateway to opportunities in higher education,” said Matarazzo. “Our hope is for these talented young artists to realize their potential and use music to propel their lives forward.”

Allen looks forward to hosting these students and their families and to celebrating the strong musical talent found throughout the region.
