Red Devil men’s basketball matched up with Fort Scott (14-10) this weekend for a top three battle in the KJCCC conference.
Multiple Red Devil players showed up in the first half of play against the Greyhounds where freshman guard Clyde Davis Jr. shot 100%, going 1/1 from three-pointers and 5/5 in field goals. Freshman guard Moses Stephenson led the first half for ACC tallying 15 points.
ACC had control of the first half shooting 64.5%, and 57.1% from three while holding Fort Scott to 37.5%. Going into the half ACC had the lead 45-36.
The second half featured an evenly matched pace with back and forth baskets where FSCC banked 12 field goals and one three-pointer, while ACC shot 10/29 field goals and two made three-pointers. The Red Devil defense also led in most categories including 27 defensive rebounds, and 15 offensive rebounds. Freshman forward Sheen Saunders, led both teams in rebounds with two offensive rebounds and five defensive rebounds. Saunders also managed to lead ACC with 17 points in the match.
Fort Scott managed to outscore the Red Devils in the second half 31-29 but wasn’t enough to surpass the ACC early lead, ending with a final score of 74-67.
ACC men’s basketball is now 15-9 (6-3) on the season and currently sits in the No. 2 spot in the KJCCC DII conference. Three more games remain in the regular season for the Red Devils as they will travel to Chanute on Feb. 17 to face off against No.4 Neosho County (14-12, 4-4) before returning home to play an undefeated, No. 1 ranked Johnson County (26-0, 9-0) on Feb. 25. ACC will then travel to Highland for the final game of the regular season on Feb. 28.
Men’s tipoff against Neosho is set for this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Chanute.
