Bartlesville, Okla. – The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team traveled to Bartlesville, Okla. to take on the No. 12 Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. The series was supposed to begin on Friday, February 13, but rain pushed the series back to Sunday, February 15, for two games and Monday, February 16, for one.
GAME 1: SWEDES 1, EAGLES 11
Eduardo Tarafa, William Sanchez, and Conner Balmer each would tally a hit in this one with Balmer hits a double in the fifth inning. Sanchez would drive Yan Ortiz in for an RBI, but that would be it for the Swedes who would fall 11-1.
Wesly Martinez drew the start lasting 4.1 innings and striking out five Eagles. Christian Gonzalez and Wander De Jesus would combine for the back 2.1 innings and three strikeouts.
GAME 2: SWEDES 0, EAGLES 3
Game two was a pitchers’ duel outside of the first inning as the Eagles scored three in the opening frame and nothing else over the rest of the contest. Unfortunately, the Swedes would not garner a hit until the sixth inning via a Melvin Laracuente pinch-hit single, but the Swedes would not be able to push one across the plate resulting in a 3-0 loss.
Jesus Rujano got the start for the Swedes lasting 3.0 innings allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out two. Austin Arrocha continued to produce in a relief role finishing the last 3.0 innings allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out three Eagles.
GAME 3: SWEDES 2, EAGLES 14
The Swedes would plate two due to an error by the Eagles’ catcher scoring William Sanchez and Will Parsons, but Bethany would fall 14-2.
Jesuel Cruz would notch two hits including a double in the second frame. Eduardo Tarafa tallied a double in the third inning and recorded a stolen in the first.
Five Swedes would spend time on the mound. Diego Lopez had the best outing pitching the last full inning allowing no walks or hits and striking out one batter.
