The Allen Red Devils hosted Fort Scott Greyhounds on Saturday evening, holding on to a 49-41 victory despite a second half push from the Greyhounds.

Allen came out hot on homecoming Saturday, starting the first quarter with a commanding 12-3 lead over Fort Scott. ACC was able to put up 35.7% of their shots in the first half, while holding Fort Scott to just 23.1% and allowing just two FSCC players to score.

Sophomore guard Juana Rojas shot 100% during the first half of play, leading all players with six points going into the half. While sophomore center Yolaine Luthi and freshman guard Karizma Johnson both tallied three to pull out to a 24-8 lead going into the half.

Rolls started to reverse in the second half as Fort Scott drained three-pointers, while shooting 66.7%. Going into the final quarter the Red Devils only led by three points, as they were outscored by the Greyhounds 18-5 in the third quarter.

Allen’s defense intensified in the final quarter, outrebounding FSCC on both the offensive and defensive glass after FSCC had controlled both categories in the first half.

Through an evenly matched final quarter Allen was able to hold off the Greyhounds 49-41. Yolaine Luthi led all scorers in the game with 15 points along with three offensive and one defensive rebound.

ACC is now 14-8 (6-3) on the season and currently sits in the No. 3 spot in the KJCCC DII conference. With just three more games left of the regular season the team has their eyes on their upcoming matchup against Neosho on Feb. 18. Neosho holds the No. 2 spot in the conference standings with a record of 17-8 (7-1). ACC fell to the Panthers in a nailbitter earlier this month, taking a loss of just two points, 60-58.
