McPherson, Kansas – After their weekend series with Hastings College had been postponed from the weekend of January 31st, the Bulldogs managed to squeeze in a midweek nine-inning game with the Broncos on Wednesday afternoon. McPherson had picked up their first win of the season in their most recent matchup with Northwestern College and looked to build upon the victory at home.

The Basics
Location: TC Construction at Bulldog Park
Records: MC 2-6, HC 2-3
Scores: MC 13, HC 3

How it Happened
McPherson had much to improve upon following their series loss to the Northwestern Raiders the previous weekend as they were outscored 45-21 in two days.

Zachary Essman, who had been on the Junior Varsity squad 24 hours prior to this matchup, got the call up to varsity for this Wednesday game and got his first career start. Facing a bases loaded situation in the top half of the 1st inning, the sophomore allowed just one run and lived to fight another day throughout this one.

In the bottom of the first, Marcus Patton sent Jaylon Woodley home on an RBI single to level the game at 1-1. Later in the inning, Patton then crossed home plate running all the way from second base after the Hastings catcher had trouble finding the ball near the plate.

With the score sitting at 2-1 in favor of the Bulldogs in the second inning, Woodley drove in Jaiden Diasio and Will Sevier on an RBI single up the middle to extend McPherson’s lead to 4-1.

McPherson managed to hold onto their lead throughout this matchup and grow it in style. The remainder of the game was highlighted with Austin Easter’s grand slam in the bottom of the fourth that grew their lead to 11-3.

The Bulldogs sealed the victory in the bottom of the 8th after Jordan Fuller drew a two-out walk, sending home Easter to give McPherson the 13-3 win over Hastings College via the run rule.
