Each month, Ad Astra Radio recognizes a girls and boys Team of the Month, selected from area high schools. The Boys Team of the Month for January goes to the Hesston Boys Basketball team.
The month: Hesston had a perfect January, going 9-0, including wins over Class 4A Wamego, Mulvane and Buhler.The Swathers, who are the reigning Class 3A state champions, also beat 3A No. 3 Holcomb enroute to the Hillsboro Trojan Classic championship. But the top performance for Hesston was a 71-65, triple overtime win over Moundridge for the Hillsboro title. Drew Bartell averaged 17 points during the month, as the Swathers are 17-1 and a threat to repeat as 3A champion. Hesston is coached by Garrett Roth, who praised a talented senior class for leading the group in another strong season.
