Dragon men fall to Barton

The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team fell to the Barton Cougars 68-60 Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons drop to The Dragons drop to 10-13 on the season, and 5-11 in conference play. Barton improves to 15-8, and 10-7 in conference play.

Daleron Thomas scored a season-high 29 points on 11 for 17 shooting and also dialed in three rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot. Thomas also hit four 3-pointers.

Hutchinson splits the season series with Barton. Kyle Fisher’s squad knocked off the then-15th-ranked Cougars with a game-winning buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Lolo Rudolph to win 58-57 back on Dec. 3, 2025.

Bobby Cannon was another Blue Dragon in double figures with 11 points, shooting 5-for-13 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds.

Hutchinson shot 41% from the floor (25-61) and shot a season low 16.7% from beyond the arc (4-24). The Dragons found success in points in the paint (32-30) and on fast break points (14-11).

Barton shot 39.7% from the field (23-58) and 33.3% from three-point range (7-21). Barton also added 15 free throws on 18 attempts. Barton outscored Hutchinson off the bench 33-12 and in second-chance points 16-11.

The Dragons kept the game close in the first half, taking the lead 16-15 at 9:07 left in the first half. That proved to be Hutchinson’s only lead of the game. Barton went on a 13-0 scoring run to take its largest lead of 27-15 with 4:04 in the first half.

Hutchinson trimmed the Barton lead to four with 8:44 left in the game when Bobby Cannon knocked down two free throws. Barton would lead by 12 at three separate times in the second half.

Jayden Ramirez led Barton in scoring with 15 points off the bench, knocking down six shots on nine attempts. The only starter in double figures for Barton was Noah Williams, with 12.

The Dragons travel to Cowley on Saturday, Feb. 7th, at the William S. Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

Game Notes – Hutchinson falls to 92-38 in the all-time series, and 45-13 at home. Hutchinson’s losing streak extends to seven games. Bobby Cannon scored in double-digits for the 17th time this season. Lolo Rudolph had eight assists or more for the fifth time this season.
