Salina, Kan. – McPherson College opened its 2026 Competitive Cheer season at the Coyote Classic on Saturday where they placed second out of the seven teams at the competition; they would finish behind Oklahoma City who scored a 91.15, which was well above the field’s average.

The Bulldogs scored a 77.5 overall score, two points above Langston who finished in third with a score of 75.5. This score would break a previous program record of 72.79 that was set in 2022. The only deductions handed to the Bulldogs in their scoring was .25 for a pyramid bobble and .25 for a stunt bobble.

Listed below are the categorical scores from the judges on McPherson’s performance:

Building Score – 27.7/40
Tumbling Score – 23.7/30
Overall Score – 17.3/20
Overall Effect – 9/10

Head Coach Toni Snyder was pleased with his team’s performance from the weekend, but still says there is room for improvement.

“Today’s competition helped us test the waters and see what’s working and what’s not working with our routine. We have two weeks now to clean and upgrade our routine before we take the mat again at Park University.”

McPherson’s next competition will be a farther road trip as they head to Parkville, Missouri to compete in the Park Invitational on February 13th in the Breckon Sports Center.
