Bullpup Sports Roundup: Wrestling Sweeps Senior Night, Boys Swim Places 4th at Campus

McPherson High School Wrestling and Boys Swim had a productive week between Jan. 28-31.


WRESTLING

The Wrestling teams hosted Senior Night on Wednesday, Jan. 28 in a double dual with Circle and Wellington. The varsity boys defeated Circle 82-0 and beat Wellington 75-6. The girls had a clean sweep as well, defeating Circle 42-24 and Wellington 48-21.

Following Senior Night, the boys team traveled to Junction City for an invitational. The team tied for 8th out of 20 teams. The Bullpups were led by two placers, who both fell in their championship matches. Carter Leathers and Madison Burkes finished 2nd in their respective weight classes.

The season resumes on Thursday, Feb. 5 with a double dual at Buhler. The varsity teams will have an invitational the following day, with the boys heading to Rose Hill and the girls to Circle.


BOYS SWIMMING

The McPherson Boys Swimming team finished 4th at the Haysville-Campus Invite on Thursday, Jan. 29.

Cooper Bohme punched his ticket to two events in State, qualifying in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:58.54 and in the 500 Freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:28.01. He also helped the 200 Medley Relay team place 2nd, while placing 2nd individually in the 100 Backstroke.

Beckett Schuckman had a star day as well, setting a new PR in the 50 freestyle of 25.49 seconds. He also finished 4th in the 100 Fly.
