Despite a good defensive performance, the Hutchinson High girls basketball team couldn’t get its offense on track, and the Salthawks fell 47-41 on Saturday to Shawnee Mission East in the fifth-place game at the Mid America Classic in McPherson.
Hutch held the Lancers to 28% shooting, but the Salthawks also shot 28% and made onoy 3 of 25 from 3-point range.
East offset its offensive struggles by going 17 of 24 from the free-throw line. Hutch was 6 of 8 from the foul striple.
Ava Krone led Hutch with 12 points, and Danai Morgan added 10 points.
Hutchinson is now 7-7 and will head to Maize South on Tuesday.
