Barber Notches 4th 20-point Game of Season in Win Over Saints

KaMyra Barber scored a game-high 20 points to lead the No. 20 Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team to a 66-60 Jayhawk Conference road victory over Seward County Saturday at the Greenhouse in Liberal.

The Dragons are now 17-5 overall and 12-4 in conference.

Barber had a steady offensive presence throughout the night. She finished 7 of 12 from the field while hitting four 3-pointers and added six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Barber recorded her fourth 20-point game of the season and 16th game scoring in double figures.

Freshman Kaia Smith was a key player off the bench with 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting, including two 3-pointers.

Noelle Anthon tallied nine points and six rebounds. Katie Duncan added eight points, three assists, and two steals. Delora Pricop also added eight points, three rebounds, and two blocks, putting her to 13 blocks on the season.

Jaden Wilson helped the Blue Dragons on the boards with five rebounds. Hutchinson forced 17 turnovers and shot 42.9 percent from the field.

Hutchinson faced early struggles after falling behind 14-2 in the opening quarter, shooting just 22 percent from the floor and going 0 of 9 from three-point range. Then, the Blue Dragons outscored the Saints 17-9 in the second period to tie the game 27-27 heading into halftime.

Hutchinson outscored Seward 39-33 over the final two quarters, limiting Seward County to just 21.4 percent shooting in the third quarter. The Blue Dragons shot 14-25 in the second half.

Seward County was led by Trinitee Holmes with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Avery Marchino added 12 points and eight rebounds. The Saints are now 14-8 overall and 9-7 in conference. The Saints cut the deficit to one with 1:33 to go, but Hutchinson closed the game at the free-throw line with Whitney Brown hitting 1-2 and Katie Duncan sinking a pair to extend the lead to two possessions.

GAME NOTES – Barber has now scored 20 or more points in 16 games this season. Hutchinson has won the last nine games against Seward County. The Dragons are 56-50 overall against the Saints.
