McPHERSON, Kan. – The 31st Annual Mid America girls basketball tournament closes off on Saturday, Jan. 31, running in conjunction with the McPherson Invitational.
The All-Tournament Team and the final stat leaders will be listed after the game recaps following the championship game. Stats are provided by the McPherson Optimist Club.
7TH PLACE GAME
McPherson – 53
Wichita Northwest – 24
It was a tightly contested first quarter, but McPherson pulled away with a strong second, third, and fourth quarter to win 53-24, finishing in 7th place.
McPherson’s offense struggled again with turnovers, but shots finally fell as they shot 38% on the floor, including 43% on three-pointers. Defensively, they held Wichita Northwest to shoot only 17%.
The Bullpups were led by Piper Alvord’s team-high 14 points. Wichita Northwest was led by Ta’lyiah Lewis’ 9 points.
5TH PLACE GAME
Shawnee Mission East – 47
Hutchinson – 41
Five lead changes highlighted the 5th Place matchup, seeing Shawnee Mission East pull it off in the end, defeating Hutchinson 47-41.
Hutchinson led by 7 points early, but the Lancers pulled back to make it a close matchup throughout the game. After a 30-all tie after three quarters, Shawnee Mission East outscored Hutchinson 17-11 in the final eight minutes.
Paige Stanfield had an incredible game for Shawnee Mission East, finishing with 18 points and 19 rebounds. Ava Krone led Hutchinson with 12 points.
3RD PLACE GAME
Shawnee Mission South – 61
Andover Central – 32
The game was all Shawnee Mission South from the jump, as the #1 ranked team in 6A knocked off Andover Central 61-32 to finish in 3rd place.
The Raiders’ defense forced 33 turnovers, while their offense shot 46% on the floor. The Jaguars had 13 steals defensively, but shot only 12/36 on the floor.
Shawnee Mission South was led by Riley Kramer’s 15 points. Kesley Barscewski led Andover Central with 10 points.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Olathe South – 63
Manhattan – 51
Eve Long had yet another terrific day for Olathe South, helping them defeat Manhattan 63-51 to win the MAC Championship.
Long followed up her 43-point performance from Friday with 31 points and 14 rebounds on Saturday. Phoebe Pflumm had a key role in the game as well with 18 points.
Manhattan finished shooting 32%, but struggled from three, shooting just 3/23. The Lady Indians were led by Bailey Busch’s 14 points and 9 rebounds. Delaney Larson also had 14 points.
