The Buhler Crusader boys swim team placed first at the seven-team Buhler Invitational Thursday at the Hutchinson YMCA pool.
Buhler placed first with 482 points, followed by Maize South with 435, Maize High School 360, Rose Hill 273, Hutchinson 248, McPherson 245 and El Dorado 76.
“After battling sickness, injuries, and the weather, Buhler came out on top at their home meet against six other teams, earning 482 points collectively,” said Buhler swim coach Shane DeWeese.
Buhler posted 21 best times, had 17 athletes on the scoreboard, nine amazing seniors recognized and two new state consideration swims.
In the 200 medley relay, the A team of Eli White, Ryler Hartnett, Hudson DeWeese and Gabe Auxier finished second overall earning 34 points.
Right behind them was Ty Campbell, Landon Little, Rayden Cunningham, and Wyatt Regeher earning 24 team points with their seventh place finish.
In the 200 freestyle, senior Hudson DeWeese finished second overall with a new personal best. Senior Eli White posted his own personal best and state consideration time.
In the 200 IM, Buhler took fourth and fifth with senior Ryler Hartnett and Junior Wyatt Regeher, earning points that out-scored the first through third positions. Senior Ty Campbell came in 13th, earning 4 team points.
In the 50 freestyle, Buhler had senior Gabe Auxier finish third, senior Ethan Maxfield fifth and senior Carson Roberts seventh.
Buhler swept the 1-meter diving with first, second and third place finishes. Senior Zach Greenlee improved his own personal best, and finished first. Junior Noah Fleishchman finished second and freshman Sam Biggs finished third.
The 100 butterfly was next with junior Wyatt Regehr finishing fifth, senior Carson Roberts ninth. Both posted new improved personal best times.
Senior Zach Greenlee finished 11th, followed by freshman Liam Ledeboer in 15th, earning 2 team points.
Senior Ethan Maxfield finished fourth in the 100 freestyle, earning 15 team points. Ty Campbell placed eighth and Gabe Auxier 16th place.
In the longest race of the night, senior Hudson DeWeese took gold in the 500 freestyle.
Right behind him was senior Eli White in fourth place with a new personal best — a sub 6 minute and state consideration time. He fearned 15 team points.
Freshman Landes Little improved his best 500 time with an 11th place finish. Sophomore Jesiah Goetz finished 15th, earning 2 team points.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Buhler’s A team of Zachariah Greenlee, Ryler Hartnett, Wyatt Regher and Ethan Maxfield finished third, earning 32 team points.
The B team of Roberts, Campbell, Biggs, and Little placed seventh and earned 24 team points.
Buhler had four swimmers in the 100 backstroke. Rayden Cunningham came in 7th, Ryder Regehr with a new PR came in 11th, Zack Schweizer finished 16th earning 1 team point and Noah Fleishchman swam it for the first time, setting his own new personal best.
In the 100 breaststroke, senior Ryler Hartnett finished fourth, freshman Ryder Regher finished 14th and freshman Landes Little finished 16th.
In the final event, Buhler’s 400 free A relay of Ethan Maxfield, Eli White, Gabe Auxier and Hudson DeWeese finished 2nd overall with a new season best, earning 34 points.
Buhler’s B team of Rayden Cunningham, Carson Roberts, Ryder Regehr and Zachariah Greenlee finished seventh earning 24 points.
Hutchinson boys swim team captures 5th at Buhler meet
The Hutchinson Salthawk boys swim team placed fifth in the seven-team Buhler Invitational Thursday at the Hutchinson YMCA pool.
Buhler placed first with 482 points, followed by Maize South with 435, Maize High School 360, Rose Hill 273, Hutchinson 248, McPherson 245 and El Dorado 76.
Hutchinson’s 200-yard medley relay team placed fourth, Tate Collins placed sixth in the 200 IM and Kye Reneau placed sixth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 500 free.
Felix Hirt and Elliott Simpson placed 5-6 in the 100 backstroke, Ethan Nichols and Mayer Collins placed 5-6 in the 100 backstroke and Gibson Malshchuk was ninth in the 500 free.
The 200 relay A team and 200 relay B team placed 6-10, the 400 free relay team placed eighth and Ethan Nichols placed 10th in the 100 free.
