Walden Secures First Double-Double, Swede Women win Fifth in a row

York, Neb. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Basketball team took the road to York, Neb. to face the York University Panthers for their second game of three this week.

The first quarter showcased the ability of both teams to score the ball as it was the highest scoring quarter in a game featuring the Swedes. Hannah Moss would lead the way in the period with eight points as Bethany outpaced York 26-24 going into the second quarter.

In the second period, the Swedes’ lead would start to swell as they were up by 10 points halfway through the quarter, but the Panthers would slowly start to chip away at the lead cutting it down to four points. The freshman trio of Heilei Davis, Tayten Dewey, and Halle Jones would come together and push the lead back up to eight before the break. The Swedes would lead 49-41 at halftime.

The Panthers would come out of halftime on a mission as they continued to chip away at the Swedes’ lead, but Bethany would get it together and close out the contest with a 35-26 run for their fifth win in a row and 11th in their past 12 conference games. Bethany now sits fourth in the KCAC.

Lilyan Walden led the Swedes with 16 points enroute to securing her first career double-double. Hannah Moss (13), Colbi Rignell (12), and Becca Unruh (10) were all in double-digits. Rignell recorded a team-high in assists with five and Unruh would swat two shots in the victory.

As a team, the Swedes made 47.5% of their shots while holding the Panthers to just 39.7%. Bethany would also convert 87.5% of their free throw attempts which helped secure the win.

The Swedes end their busy week with a trip to Bartlesville, Okla. to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. Tipoff is set for 1:00 PM in Mueller Sports Center.
