Salthawks Spur Upset, Take Down Top Seed Topeka Seaman in McPherson

Lamar Govain poured in a game-high 21 points, and Draydon Hippen added 15 points, and the Hutchinson High boys basketball team spurred an upset in the first round of the McPherson Invitational on Thursday, as the eighth-seeded Salthawks beat the top-seeded Topeka Seaman 53-51.

The Salthawks played well offensively, shooting 53% (20 for 38), and they held Seaman to 38%.

Danny Boone gave the Salthawks the lead for good when he scored with 1 minute, 45 seconds left to give Hutch a 49-47 lead.

Hutchinson advances to the semifinals, where the Salthawks will take on AVCTL Division 1 rival Derby, which beat Lawrence Free State 70-58.
