LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Bethany College Swedes showed fight and resilience Wednesday night but were unable to overcome an efficient Kansas Wesleyan squad, falling 80–67 at Hahn Gymnasium in conference action.
Bethany trailed 37–29 at halftime and worked to stay within striking distance throughout the second half, but Kansas Wesleyan’s consistent scoring inside and timely free throws proved too much to overcome. The Swedes dropped to 6–12 overall and 2–11 in conference play.
Jordan Reams and David Mitchell led Bethany with 14 points apiece. Reams provided steady production from the guard spot, knocking down two three-pointers and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, while also adding two assists and a steal in 36 minutes. Mitchell added his 14 points on five field goals and four free throws, anchoring the Swedes’ scoring effort.
Keddric Mays II turned in a strong all-around performance, finishing with 13 points and a team-high six rebounds. Milton Kpehe contributed valuable minutes inside, pulling down seven rebounds to go along with six points, helping Bethany generate second-chance opportunities. The Swedes held a 21–9 advantage in second-chance points, a key positive from the night.
Curtis Stovall III added nine points off the bench, while JJ Warfield chipped in eight points and six rebounds. Bethany attacked the glass aggressively, finishing with 32 total rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end.
Despite the rebounding edge, Bethany struggled to find rhythm from the perimeter, shooting 3-for-21 from beyond the arc. Kansas Wesleyan also forced 18 Swede turnovers, converting those mistakes into crucial points that kept Bethany from mounting a sustained comeback.
The Swedes will look to build on their energy, rebounding effort, and balanced scoring as conference play continues, aiming to translate hustle and execution into wins in the coming weeks.
