Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Basketball team played host to their biggest rivals, the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, on Wednesday night. The Swedes played hard and used a dominant third quarter to hold off the Coyotes for their third victory in a row and eighth in the past nine games.
The third quarter was something special as the Swedes held the Coyotes to 26% from the floor including 0% from beyond the arc. It wasn’t just one person that led the way as six different Swedes scored at least two of the 19 points in the quarter.
Overall, Colbi Rignell and Becca Unruh both scored 14 points. Unruh also went 7-for-10 from the charity stripe and had three steals on the night. Lilyan Walden had a solid game with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
As a team, the Swedes forced 15 turnovers while only committing 9. Bethany’s points scored off turnovers compared to Kansas Wesleyan’s equaled the difference in the final score (12 to 7).

The Swedes will have an extended break due to weather forecasts predicting heavy snowfall this weekend. Saturday’s match at home against the Saint Mary Spires has been officially moved to Monday, January 26, with a 6:00 PM tipoff.
