No. 1 Little River Girls Advance to Semifinals at St. John Midwinter Classic

The No. 1-ranked Little River High School girls basketball team picked up a 72-16 opening-round win over Nickerson at the St. John Mid-Winter Classic.

Little River led at halftime 48-9.

Arika Feldman led the Little River girls with 20 points. Avery Lafferty scored 12 points, Dempsey Lafferty 10, Macy Schubert 8, Adelynne Strecker 7 and Evie Look 7.

Dempsey Lafferty grabbed 7 rebounds, dished off 3 assists and had 3 steals. Strecker had 5 assists and 5 steals. Olander and Feldman each had 2 blocked shots.

Skylar Lamas led Nickerson with 8 points.

The Little River girls will play Central Plains in the 6:30 p.m. semifinal game Friday. Nickerson will play in the consolation round at 6:30 p.m. Friday against St. John.

The Nickerson boys basketball team lost to Central Plains 70-45 in the first round of the St. John Mid-Winter Classic on Tuesday.

Nickerson trailed 17-13 after one quarter, 39-24 at halftime and 52-39 after three quarters. The Central Plains Oilers outscored the Panthers 18-6 in the fourth quarter.

Camden Stiles (30) and Brodie Crites (25) combined for 55 of the Central Plains Oilers’ 70 points.

Riley Brawner led Nickerson with 20 points.

The Nickerson boys will play Macksville in the consolation round at 5 p.m. Friday.
