McPHERSON, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce the most recent recipient of the Ad Astra Radio Classroom Hero Award presented by Peoples Bank and Trust as Melissa Reves, 3rd Grade Teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School.

Each month, Ad Astra Radio randomly selects a different educator, from community nominations, to receive the Classroom Hero Award, along with a “Thank You” gift basket. Gift items are courtesy of community partners, including Peoples Bank and Trust, Midway Motors and Stutzman’s Greenhouse.

Ms. Reves, a Galva native, has been teaching at Eisenhower for eight years and is in her 23rd year of teaching overall. She got her teaching degree from Emporia State University and has recently earned a Masters in Neuroscience and Trauma from Tabor College.

Ms. Reves has taught in many areas over the years, including special education, pre-school, and different elementary age levels.

“I love getting to be with the kids every day,” Reves said. “Every day is different and every day is fun.”

Ms. Reves believes that third grade is “the absolute best level” to teach because the students are capable, independent, but also still sweet and loving.

“They’re excited to come to school and learn still, so it’s fun to teach that age,” Reves said.

In a Classroom Hero Award nomination, Ms. Reves was described as the kind of teacher who loves her students like her own.

“My son goes to school every day looking forward to seeing her. He is always thinking of bringing her favorite candy or snack because he thinks of her so fondly,” the nominator said. “She [Ms. Reves] consistently tells me what a joy my son is and we just think she is the bees knees around our house.”

The nominator added that her son aspires to become a teacher when he gets older because of Ms. Reves’ influence.

Another community member shared that Ms. Reves is “one of the most talented educators in the USD 418 school system.”

“She understands how to connect with each child in her classroom and bring out the best in them,” they added. “She [Ms. Reves] goes above and beyond to make 3rd grade one of the best learning environments I have ever seen!”

The Classroom Hero Award seeks to highlight the hard work and dedication of those on the front lines in our local schools. Nominations are continually being accepted at https://www.adastraradio.com/classroomhero.
