HALSTEAD, Kan. — The No. 1-seeded Andale Indians used a strong second half in their opening round game in the 56th annual Adolph Rupp Invitational against Lawrence on Monday night.
Andale outscored the Chesty Lions, 40-28, in the second half en route to a 75-56 victory.
After Lawrence scored immediately off the opening tip, Andale used a 10-0 run to lead 10-2. Lawrence responded with a 13-0 run to lead 15-10. Andale got the lead back for good with under two minutes to play in the first quarter and led 24-20 through eight minutes of play. The Chesty Lions pulled within two early in the second, but not any closer. The Indians led 35-28 at halftime.
Andale began the third quarter on an 8-0 run en route to a 28-point quarter and led 63-44 heading into the fourth quarter. The Indians led by as many as 24 in the game.
Four Indians scored in double-figures, led by Caden Fowler tying a season-high with 22 points and nine rebounds. Hunter Grimes added 12, Cruz Kaiser tallied 11, and Sam Harp had 10.
Andale (8-2) will face in-district rival Garden Plain in the first of two championship semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday in Halstead. Garden Plain defeated Rose Hill in its first round game, 60-54. Andale defeated Garden Plain, 52-41, on January 2.
