Damian Whillock fired in eight 3-pointers (as well as two 3-pointers) and scored 30 points to lead the Halstead High School boys basketball team to a 64-53 victory over Larned Friday night at the Larned gymnasium.
The Halstead boys basketball team led Larned 22-12 after one quarter, 32-31 at halftime and 45-42 at the end of the third quarter. Halstead put Larned away with a 19-11 fourth quarter.
Whillock made 11-of-17 field goals, including 8-of-14 3-point attempts forc his 30 points. He also had 6 steals. Reece Carmichael scored 10 points and dished off 11 assists for the Dragons, who improved to 5-7.
Carlos Martinez and Noah Brantley each contributed 6 points for the Dragons. Wyatt Hobbes, Noah Diehl and Mario Diaz each scored 4 points.
Kylier Greene scored 25 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Larned Indian boys. Landis Hagerman contributed 13 points and Tristan Ragan 8.
The Halstead High School girls basketball team defeated Larned 43-34 Friday night at Larned after leading at halftime 23-13.
The Halstead Dragon girls improved their record to 11-0.
Halstead led 10-8 after one quarter, 23-13 at halftime and 28-23 after three quarters. The Dragons outscored the Dragons 15-11 in the final frame.
Addisen Wills and Jordy Schroeder scored 15 points each to lead Halstead. Piper Schroeder added 6 points, Tess Williams 5 and Annie Williams 2.
Cassidy Wachs led the Larned girls with 10 points. Taetan Reynolds and Lauren Sleder each scored 8 points. Jadyn Crosby was held to 4 points. Brooke Simmons also scored 4 points.
