ANDALE, Kan. — The Andale basketball teams finished off a perfect week with a sweep over Haven on Friday, heading into midseason tournament play.
The Andale girls trailed by nine points in the first half, but found a way to extend the game into overtime and defeated the Lady Wildcats, 57-56.
Haven led 21-14 after the first quarter before Andale cut the deficit to 32-28 at halftime. The Lady Wildcats pushed the lead back to eight before Andale took a 42-39 lead late in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Paige Stanhope. Andale’s lead was 42-40 heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Indians got up four before Haven used an 8-0 run run to 48-44. Both teams went back-and-forth with Edyn Stolz tying the game at 52, splitting a pair of free throws. In overtime, both teams exchanged buckets before Stanhope hit a long 2-pointer with under a minute to go. Abbi Winter hit 1-of-2 at the free-throw line to put Andale up 3. Rilyn Patry got a layup with 41 seconds to play. Andale had the ball with 13 seconds left, Haven got a stop, but could not get a shot off before the buzzer.
Avery Brawner led Haven (9-4) with 30 points and 11 rebounds, while Patry added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Andale was led by Winter’s 17 points while Stanhope added a career-high 11. Haven is off until January 29 when it hosts its home invitational. Andale (6-3) plays at Augusta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Andale boys held off the Wildcats, 49-42. Haven got off to a fast start by hitting 3 3-pointers en route to an 11-5 first quarter advantage. The Indians then got going behind Jack Horsch, outscoring Haven, 16-8 in the second for a 21-19 halftime lead. Both teams went back and forth in the third quarter, with the Indians leading 35-30 heading into the fourth. Andale led by as many as eight in the final stages of the game, with Haven only pulling within five.
Horsch’s 14 points led Andale (7-2), while Caden Fowler recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Sam Harp added 11. Haven (6-7) was led by Brogan Wray’s 12 points, while Kolton Altvater added 11.
Andale is the No. 1 seed of the Rupp Tournament and will take on Lawrence at 6 p.m. Monday in Halstead. Haven is the No. 3 seed in the Rupp Tournament and will take on Halstead at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in Halstead.
