Bullpup Sports Roundup: Boys Swim, Wrestling, Bowling, E-Sports Start 2026 Strong

McPherson High School sports started off the 2026 calendar year with a busy first week.


WRESTLING

Following a dual to open 2026 at Winfield, McPherson High School Wrestling traveled to Burlington for the 9th Burlington LadyCat Invitational and the 34th Annual Burlington Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The boys’ team placed 3rd overall in the invitational with 157 total points, out of 25 schools. Two Bullpups won their weight class: Noah Garcia in the 113 and Dylan Hall in the 215. Madison Burkes was the runner-up in the 120 class. Jacob Magnall placed 3rd, Carter Leathers 4th, Mason Miller 4th, Keaton Crane 5th, and Max Crane in 6th in their respective weight classes. The McPherson girls placed 12th overall out of 27 schools. Emily Reno placed 4th in her weight class, and Alexis Mintzer and Heidi Fairchild placed 5th in their respective classes. CLICK HERE for the full results.

The Girls team will head to Newton for the two-day Tournament of Champions on Jan. 14-15. The Boys Tournament of Champions is January 16-17, also in Newton.


BOYS SWIMMING

McPherson Boys Swimming took part in the Newton Invitational to start off 2026 on Thursday, Jan. 8.

The Bullpups finished 9th as a team. Beckett Shuckman had a great day, placing 6th in the 100 Butterfly and 8th in the 50 Freestyle. Ben Bocox placed 5th in the 100 Backstroke. Cooper Bohme placed 5th in the 500 Freestyle and 6th in the 200 Freestyle.

The Bullpups will head to Salina South for their next meet on Thursday, Jan. 15.


BOWLING

McPherson Bowling started the 2026 season at Bowlero Northrock for a tournament on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The girls’ bowlers began the day, placing 26th in the event. The team had a total score of 1259. The boys placed 15th in the event, with a score of 2236.

The bowling team will be at Startlite Lanes in McPherson for a dual against Circle on Thursday, Jan. 15.


E-SPORTS

In the first season of KSHSAA-Sanction E-Sports, McPherson High School has participated in Mario Kart. McPherson is 1-3 so far, most recently participating on Thursday, Jan. 8, against Salina Central.

The team, known as the McPherson Karts, will head to the Andover eSports Invite on Thursday, Jan. 15.
