CLEARWATER, Kan. — The Andale basketball teams wrapped the first half of AVCTL-IV with a sweep over Clearwater on Tuesday.
The Andale girls defeated Clearwater, 49-35, extending their winning streak to three. Andale (5-3 overall, 4-1 AVCTL-IV) never trailed in the game and led 13-2 after the first quarter and led by as many as 18 in the first half. Andale led 27-15 at halftime and held a 36-24 lead heading into the fourth. Clearwater could only cut the deficit to seven in the fourth. Brooke Grimes and Abbi Winter each had 16 to lead the way for Andale.
After a close first quarter, the Andale boys routed Clearwater, 64-31. Andale, the fifth-ranked team in Class 4A, led 15-14 after the first, but then used a 23-3 second quarter to lead 38-17 at halftime. Andale pushed the lead over 30 in the fourth quarter, with the final 5:22 of the game being contested with a running clock. Jack Horsch led the way for Andale (6-2, 4-1) with 22 points, 19 coming in the first half.
Andale hosts Haven in a non-league doubleheader on Friday.
