The Barton Community College women’s track and field team began their indoor portion of the 2026 slate Saturday in Columbia, Missouri, competing in the Alexis Jarrett Invitational held at the University of Missouri’s Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
Competing against a blend of junior college and four-year level field, Barton came away with four individual titles and eight national qualifying marks.
Hurdle success grabbed the early spotlight, with Asharria Ulett picking up where she left off last season by winning the 60m hurdles in a national qualifying run of 8.43. Camoy Binger followed closely in second at 8.57, while Alexia Walker rounded out a strong Cougar trio by posting a personal best 8.93, as all three met national standards.
Twenty minutes later in the 60m short sprint, Thomphang Basele captured the title in her collegiate debut with a national qualifying time of 7.67, while sophomore Kayda Austin added a third-place finish in 7.83.
The Cougars showcased depth in the 400m, led by Narissa McPherson‘s event-winning personal best of 57.72. Fellow sophomore Natasha Fox followed in second at 58.49, with freshman Maya Maldonado taking third in 59.48 to give Barton three of the top three placings, while sophomore Takeila Williams added a sixth-place effort at 1:01.73.
That momentum carried into the 4x400m relay, where Barton’s quartet of Basele, Walker, Fox, and McPherson claimed victory and punched another national qualifying mark with a time of 3:50.35.
Field events added to the Cougars’ scoring depth as sophomore Celine Riddle earned a third-place finish in the triple jump while meeting national standards with a leap of 11.92m (39-01.25). In the high jump, Barton doubled up on qualifiers as freshman Jahmeka Brown cleared 1.66m (5-05.25) for second place, with Walker matching the height to finish third. Zadie Mackey highlighted the throws with the sophomore’s runner-up finish in the shot put at 11.80m (38-08.75), while Shamoyea Morris and Shamoye Morris contributed additional top-five placings between the shot put and weight throw in their debuts.
Barton returns to action next weekend, traveling to Lubbock, Texas, for the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech University.
