IOLA, Kan. — Allen County Road and Bridge supervisor Jeremy Hopkins briefed Allen County Commissioners Tuesday on signage plans for Lehigh Portland State Park. In discussions with the state, three locations have been identified including US 54 and State Street, US 169 and Minnesota Road, and at 1400 and Montana Roads.

Other locations on US 54 were looked at but will not be pursued at this time due to the upcoming reconstruction project. Kansas Wildlife and Parks will cover the sign cost and installation, Hopkins noting the county would be responsible for future maintenance on the signs on county right of way.

Hopkins and Commissioners also discussed the potential for overlay projects on roads leading into the park, more on that after the first of the year. He also reported over the next couple of weeks road and bridge crews will be in Mildred cleaning up brush, trimming trees, and such.

Commissioners authorized a $50,000 transfer from the Appraiser’s fund to the Special Equipment Fund. It also approved cereal malt beverage license renewals for Mildred Store, which has licenses for both on-premises consumption and package sales.

County Clerk Shannon Patterson also discussed 2026 cost of living raises for county employees, which the Commission will discuss further at next Tuesday’s meeting.
