Lyons fell behind early as Hillsboro scored the first six points before the Lions could get their offense untracked. Once they gained the lead late in the first quarter, Lyons never looked back as they won by 56-37.
Hillsboro committed 17 turnovers while Lyons committed only six. Lyons also won the rebounding battle 39-35. A key stat was the free-throw shooting. Hillsboro went to the line twice, making all four attempts. Lyons went to the line on 15 occasions and made 21 of their 30 attempts.
The leading scorer for Lyons was Tegan Link with 15 points. Paco Espinoza was also in double figures with 13 points, going 7 of 8 from the charity stripe.
Link led all rebounders with 11 boards for Lyons. The leading scorer for Hillsboro was Braxton Hiebert with 14 points. Brayson Amstutz added 12 points and led the Trojans in rebounding with nine boards. Also scoring were Koehn Janzen with 6 and Nathan Sibayan with 5.
Lyons improves to 2-2 Sedgwick on Tuesday. Hillsboro falls to 0-4 and will play Halstead next Tuesday.
Hillsboro girls 51, Lyons 14 – The Hillsboro Trojans advanced their season record to 3-1 as they defeated Lyons.
The Trojans roared to a quick 12-0 lead before Lyons could score. Hillsboro held a 29-12 rebound advantage. They also forced Lyons into 22 turnovers while only committing 11.
Hillsboro had balanced scoring from eight girls, led by Ella Potucek with 12 points and eight rebounds. Kingsley Ratzlaff also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Lyons was led by Keriah Davis with 6 points.
Hillsboro is now 3-1on the season. Lyons drops to 0-4.
