The Bethany College Swedes earned a solid 67–58 home victory over the York University Panthers on Wednesday night at Hahn Gymnasium, using strong early defense and balanced scoring to take control of the game. Bethany dominated the opening quarter, limiting York to just six points and building a 15–6 lead. The Swedes carried that momentum into the second quarter, pushing the halftime score to 32–16 by staying aggressive on the boards and creating quality scoring opportunities.
York made adjustments in the second half and picked up its offensive rhythm in the third quarter, scoring 22 points and shooting 50% from the field. Even with the Panthers’ improved shooting, Bethany responded with confidence, putting up 23 points in the third to maintain control of the game and protect their double-digit advantage.
Bethany’s offense was led by a strong performance from Becca Unruh, who scored 21 points, knocked down five three-pointers, and added six free throws. Hannah Moss contributed 13 points, providing consistent scoring in the paint and at the line, while Colbi Rignell delivered a well-rounded effort with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Bench contributions added another boost, with Bethany’s reserves scoring 18 points.
A key factor in the Swedes’ win came from their defensive pressure. Bethany forced 24 York turnovers and converted them into 30 points, creating separation even as the Panthers pushed late in the fourth quarter. The Swedes also outscored York 26–14 in the paint, demonstrating their strength around the rim. The victory improves Bethany’s record to 3–5 and gives the team valuable momentum in conference play.
