The Hutchinson Central Christian varsity boys and girls basketball teams opened the 2025-26 seasons with a sweep of Hutchinson Trinity Catholic Tuesday at the Central Christian gymnasium.
The Cougar boys defeated the Celtics 57-33 and the CCHS girls won 52-21.
Anika Paulsrud led the Trinity girls with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block. Cienna Maskil had 5 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Alyssa Guajardo scored 4 points for the Celtics. Brecken Dowsey and Mia Vega each scored 2 points.
Jessa Losew led the Cougars with 17 points. Avery Kauffman scored 12, Avery Duft 9, Harper Newcome 6, Reese Swanson 5 and Ava Newcome 3.
Trinity hosts Haven Friday night and Central Christian plays against Classical School of Wichita at Wichita.
Moundridge boys, girls sweep season-openers from Haven
The Moundridge High School boys and girls basketball teams swept their season openers against Haven Tuesday night at Haven.
The Moundridge boys defeated Haven 54-30 and the Moundridge girls won 56-25.
“We played hard and came up short to the very talented 2A state champs,” said Haven girls basketball coach Dwight Roper on the team’s Facebook page. “I was proud of the girls effort tonight.”
Easton Shahan led the Moundridge boys with 18 points,. Heath Churchill added 10, Jesse Lutz 9 and LT Schmidt 8.
Jace Martin led the Haven boys with 11 points.
The Haven Wildcats play on the road Friday at Hutchinson Trinity Catholic. The JV girls game starts at 4:30 p.m.
Sterling boys, Cheney girls win season openers
The Sterling High School varsity boys basketball team opened the season with a 69-42 victory over Cheney.
Cheney’s girls defeated Sterling 44-30. Cheney led 32-16 at halftime.
Sterling hosts Hillsboro Friday night.
Little River varsity, JV girls sweep Chase County
The Little River High School varsity and junior varsity basketball teams opened the season with a sweep of Chase County Tuesday night at Cottonwood Falls.
The Little River varsity team defeated Chase County 86-19 and the JV team won 20-11.
