The Kapaun Mount Carmel Crusaders blasted Shawnee Mission Bishop Miege 56-21 to win the Kansas Class 4A state championship Saturday night at Emporia State University’s Welch Stadium.
The Crusaders won their first state title 37 years ago in 1987 back when Kapaun was a powerhouse program. Kapaun won nine state titles in 13 appearances over an 18-year stretch.
Kapaun posted a 12-1 record in 2025, with the loss coming against Lenexa-St. James Academy. Kapaun outscored its opponents 661-162.
The Stags’ bid for their 12th state title fell short and they finished the season with a 7-5 record.
Kapaun rushed for 540 yards, including 250 by junior Kenneth Huff, 123 by senior Wyatt Sullenger and 95 by senior Cal Purvis.
