McPherson, Kan – Competitive Dance will return as McPherson College’s 21st varsity program beginning in the 2026-27 season. The Bulldog Dance Team will join the expanding spirit program, alongside the current competitive cheerleading team, and will be led by Director of Spirit Programs Antonio Snyder.

Snyder said he appreciates the administration’s support in bringing the program back and noted that campus leaders recognize the value of a strong spirit program.

A gameday atmosphere isn’t complete without a successful dance team,” Snyder said. “I am committed to creating a team founded on culture and pride that our athletes and fans can appreciate.”
The NAIA is currently the only collegiate organization that recognizes competitive cheer and dance as varsity sports. The McPherson College program will join the 57 other institutions in the NAIA as of the 2025-26 season. The KCAC currently has seven full-time members competing – Bethel College, Friends University, Kansas Wesleyan University, Ottawa University, Southwestern College, University of Saint Mary, and York University.

“Much like the additions of women’s bowling and women’s flag football, bringing a competitive dance program back to McPherson College aligns with the college’s strategic plan to grow enrollment, specifically by creating more opportunities for women on our campus,” said Josh Daume, director of athletics. “We’re excited to watch Coach Snyder continue to lead our spirit programs and compete for KCAC championships.”

McPherson College is no stranger to the competitive dance scene. The Bulldog Dance Team was ranked 5th in the KCAC in 2024 before taking a brief hiatus.
“I am excited to build on the previous success of the program,” Synder said. “We are currently recruiting both school and studio dancers with experience in hip hop, jazz, or pom. We have scholarships available for qualified student-athletes.”

The Dance Team will perform on the sidelines and halftime at Bulldog football and basketball events as well as competing in the NAIA and at NDA College Nationals.
